I mentioned several times about getting an NYLXS banner on other sites. I just reviewed Linux Weekly News' media kit. They are in the news due to a redesigned site. They get 3.2 million page views a month. Surely some of those eyeballs are located here in the New York Metropolitan area.
They previously made an offer on their website to host banners for Linux advocacy groups for free, due to the low demand for paid advertising. Perhaps...someone should see if the offer still stands?
I made a banner that stated free software, Linux desktop, NY, or something along those lines for the Linus Weekly News site, and other sites. It was pointed out to me that NYLXS already has a banner and logo, and they look good. How about getting one of these banners on the site? Now that NYLXS has an internet radio show, maybe a banner that states that? Do we have the bandwidth to handle the traffic?
They are asking for-profit companies for $4 per thousand for text ads, and I'm sure higher for banner ads. At $4 per thousand, that translates to over $12,000 per month in free advertising, and if the banner ads are $5 per thousand, that $15,000 in free advertising that we could be getting. Slashdot and other related sites get well over $20 per thousand for banner ads. Let's not lose this opportunity.
Vincenzo.
