Ruben- Since you put me on this list I have diverted most of the messages to /dev/null, and I have resisted the temptation to reply to several of your more inane postings to the list. You are charismatic, full of energy and willing to work hard and push for your views. I must say that you have accomplished a lot in organizing this group even if you did lie to me a few weeks ago when you said it was a Free Software group, and not a Linux group. If it really was a free software group you would not be making stupid statements like the one above. Where do you think much of the utilities and user level code that is on a linux box came from? If you said UC Berkley you would be right. Where did Linux get a good TCP/IP stack from? If you said Berkley you would again be right. I must say that if you really believe that a GPL incompatible license is not free then you need a to take the blinders off and look around a little. There are those that would argue that the BSD license gives even more freedom because it is the developer's choice to provide source code or not. I seem to remember just a few short years ago when I was trying to get you to switch from your crashing Windows box and you fought every step of the way. I did try to broden and further your education in this field, but like so many religious converts you became an immediate fundamentalist zelot for your own version of the free software band wagon. Calm down a little, take a chill pill, and look at the broader picture. I will have to pull my support for the CUNY demonstration. It is clear that since many of the things I work with everyday and was planning to demo at the CUNY presnetation are covered by the BSD license, or a BSD compatible license you do not want any BSD code polluting your Ruben Safir Linux Dog & Pony Show & Flying circus.
ALERT ALERT ALERT BSD CODE DETECTED
[localhost:~] wynkoop% telnet www2.mrbrklyn.com smtp Trying 216.254.112.136... Connected to www2.mrbrklyn.com. Escape character is '^]'. 220 www2.mrbrklyn.com ESMTP Sendmail 8.11.2/8.11.2/SuSE Linux 8.11.1-0.5; Tue, 7 May 2002 02:12:38 -0400
Please remember to do an rm -f sendmail on your own servers after you get this message. You would not want your own boxes polluted with that nasty BSD license in sendmail now would you. I seem to recall that you have been asking me to do a lecture/discussion on sendmail for this group. Are you really sure you want me to address this group about a piece of software not covered by the One and Only True Free Software License! Hallelujah! I still do plan to give the security talk, but be warned that code released under many different licenses may come up. I would not want the temple walls to crumble down around us at the mention of BSD.
