For the PR committee:
I have emailed NY Daily News, NY Post, and NY Times requesting an email and/or fax number for submitting announcements regarding installfests, the CUNY Demo, etc.
The NY Newsday has a page, located here: http://cf.newsday.com/newsdayemail/quickinfo.cfm#mailing which appears to accept community announcements via fax or phone. Scroll down to "The Guide-Listing of Events". They only list Queens and Long Island. You might be able to get the CUNY demo in, even though it is located in Manhattan, by stressing in the press release that it is open to residents of all 5 boroughs, including Queens. Other events not held in Queens will probably be not included, but it doesn't hurt to try. They may have another section including other parts of the city.
For all of the press releases to these news organizations, I suggest limiting them to installfests and demo/inservice type of events which are open to the public at first. Once the connection is made, you could consider other announcements. If you start with class announcements, they won't include it in this free area, they'll tell you to pay for an ad.
Of course, all press releases to the news organizations should include a reference to www.nylxs.com for more information.
I'll let you know when I get a response from the other papers.
Vincenzo.
