A bill without a return of rights to artists and writers is cutting out a core constituency which is needed to turn the tide on Monopoly abuse by the music, publishing and movie industry.
This gets back to the issue of creating a broader constituency than the current tech related folks adversly affected by these rules. This provision will return every artist and writer, who are largely OPPONENTS in our efforts, and who SHOULD BE natural allies, into powerful, articulate and politically active allies.
We should not pass on the chance to bring them under our tent, so I recommend that you talk to Jeann and make sure the language of the bill will effectively empower recording artists and writers, while still protecting the intersts of the FSF.
BTW - just as a minor point, I'm more concern about what is good for the public and the FSF is just a vehicle to reach those goals. Let's not forget that the issue is freedom, not us.

If the Hollings Bill get's passed, even with a FSF "Loophole" and the courts and regulatory agencies behave like they have with regard to the reverse engineering clause and fair use clauses in the DMCA, it won't matter, because from a practical matter, the FSF will be outlawed.
