per your request, my CUNY demo segment will show:
multi-platform interoperability: via a mac-powerbook a pc-notebook and, (if i can get decent video by then) a sun ultra-10. each machine runs a different distribution: pc=redhat / mac= a yellowdog-mandrake mongrel /sun = suse
generally, i'll be demonstrating: ease of use, cross-platform compatibility, flexibility and compatibility of window/managers and applications, ability to read and write documents in ms formats, true multitasking.
various office applications: evolution (including pilot-link) j-pilot star/open office 6 applix koffice kmail
various window managers: windowmaker gnome kde various file-managers kde nautilus gmc ssh remote xterminal running app on x-client and displaying windows on x-server. i intend to do something like: log into the pc from the mac via ssh run openoffice on the pc displaying windows on the mac open a file on the mac's nfs share write the file in a different format to the nfs share write the file in a different format to the pc open the file on the pc with a different application
samba set the mac up as a samba server, run win-4-lin on the pc, and work with a share on the samba server.
still running win-4-lin on the pc, i'll browse the shares using the samba client on the mac.
i'd be happy to leave any or all of these things out.
additionally, i believe that in addition to sharing what info we have with the audience, we should try to get something from them in return for our generous efforts. i think that "something" should be information. i am trying to work up a questionnaire that i hope will provide us info as to what our prospective "customers" know and/or are interested. in that guise, i hoping to also impart some "fear of microsoft" via innocent questions like "are you aware of the extent to which viruses can cripple microsoft-based networks?" .... or something like that. i'll be interested in any and all help with that as well.
