SUBJECT | Subject: [hangout] Stallman mentions NYLXS at Moglen talk at nyu
|
I went to the Eben Moglen talk tonight at NYU. I did not have to mention our group at the announcements, because Mr. Stallman took it upon himself to stand up in the middle of meeting stating something along the lines of you all are lucky to be in NY because there is a very politically active individual in this City who has started a new group called NYLXS who has more ideas than volunteers who could carry them out his name is Ruben Safir. If you want to get involved email him at ruben-at-mrbrklyn.com . I stood up mentioned in more detail some of the things we have been doing, and that perhaps emails should be sent to hangout. This ruffled the feathers of many of the other linux group attendees.
All in all the talk was very good. Moglen definitely believes in the political mobilisation of free software users, as an extention of all the other freedoms, technological freedom parallel to freedom of speech. The crowd however was definitely the converted.
I was also surprised at the resentment Ruben tends to create among the crustier Linux groups.
