I will be presenting two separate demonstrations: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * NYLXS's new icecast mp3 and ogg-vorbis internet broadcasting server* -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (perhaps with the help of Brett Wynncoop) We will have the machine and hope to broadcast as much as every presentation from the show floor. We should find out how to interface our equipment with any PA system which exists in the hall if this is the case, otherwise I can bring my tiny powered monitors which were used at the Audio Inservice. I think a 20 minute presentation should suffice to describe the server itself. Topics will include: -- A quick discussion of the audio hardware required, -- An explaination of compression and bandwidth how these words get confused passing from analog to the digital -- The formats utilised in digital compression and -- The hardware requirements and connection speeds required for a server to do this. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *The GIMP* imaging applications for the small business --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- a) I will demonstrate a work stream from the scanner through to the printer. showing XSane and the excellent Epson printer drivers b) I will also have prepared a demonstration on creating animations in the GIMP c) and a demonstration of the perl interface to the GIMP. Perhaps three separate 20 minute segments would be a good format. I will use my tower my scanner and my printer. I would like a monitor or a projector so that I don't have to lug my own, and could use help transporting my equipment if we have a van or a car.
