JOB: Contract - Set up our office LAN
Short term position available for a hardware/network wiz who can help us get our act together. We're a small not for profit office that has suddenly exploded, and we need help getting our network organized and setting up procedures for file sharing, back-ups, remote access, etc.
If you are interested, please review the requirements below and reply with a resume and estimate (time and $$) for the project. We envision someone coming in for a day or two asap and then following up once or twice after that as needed.
Should be a straight forward job for someone with experience setting up an office LAN. We're not looking for anything too fancy.
Current Situation ---------------------- - We have 15-20 Macs and PC's - Most are networked to a printer - Some of the PC's have PC MacLan to support Appleshare - Some machines are networked to a Mac doing double duty as a work machine and a file server - We have email accounts at various domains, including an AOL account; interns and floaters have no email - We have several workers who work from home part time - We host multiple Web sites off site - Some computers are for permanent staff, a pool of others are used by interns and other floaters - A fledging intranet (really just Web sharing off of someone's Mac) - We have mastered the sneaker net, and haven't really moved beyond.... - Some of our Macs are antiques.... but some are G4s - We have a hardware guy here and a handful of interns who are good at plugging things in and following directions, so you would have some extra hands on deck.
What we need ------------------- - A sensible network arrangement that allows floaters to store their work on a server and allows file sharing among everyone one else - Standard procedures for backing up and doing system scans for all machines - An email arrangement for temporary staff like interns - A system for transferring files from home computers (even an ftp will work, but dial in would be fantastic) - An evaluation of our network security (do we need a firewall) - An evaluation of our current hardware and future needs - Some kind of documentation of what has been established so we can stick to the structure as we grow - Someone to be nice to us and help us out without getting distressed... - Someone who can point out what's missing from this list.
Where we are ------------------- We're in NJ, a 35 minute bus ride from Port Authority. Easy schlep from West side, a little longer from Queens and Brooklyn.
What to do -------------- If you are interested, please write me a personal email explaining who you are and why you are the person for the job. Please also include your estimate in hours and dollars, and a reference or three.
