Hey everyone,
I would like to host the first nylxs multimedia inservice on Tuesday
April 15th at the Killarny Rose.
I would like to consentrate the inservice on audio, in honor of nylxs'
first meeting to discuss the development of a streaming radio show,
which will be held on the same night. (perhaps before from 6:30-7:30
with the inservice from 7:30-9:00+)
The inservice will cover:
--alsa and the low-latency kernel patches
--some hardware considerations
--ecasound and snd (perhaps dap and wavesurfer)
--sox (the swissarmy knife for audio files)
for midi,
--timidity and muse
--and my all time favorite pd (with gem)
and I will mention ardour (which still in development but super interesting)
With this many programs this InService will be a sort of overview,
because I feel there is much confusion, on what people expect to be able
to do, and about digital audio and midi in general.
In my opinion it is still more difficult right now to to set up a video
workstation, and I would like to have a proven working solution (on my
system), before embarking on a group discussion about this.
As most of you may know I still would like to do an InService on
Blender, and 3d tools under Linux. But the company responsible for
Blender went bankrupt, leaving the code base in jeopardy. As I would
rather talk about working amazing free products than politics, I'm
hesitating on advertising Blender as our first event. I would however
like to host a workshop in my apartment on Blender, like the gtk work
shop which was held at Ruben's. (This could be an opportunity to make
the motion graphics for our nylxs video collection!) If you are
interested in this workshop please let me know, (free to members, $40 to
nylxs for everyone else) we can pick a convenient night at the inservice.
Please send comments/concerns about times dates etc. soon, and I will
forward this announcement to other interested lists, and update the
calendar.
