According to the story, half the copyright is owned by one publishing company and the other half by another, or something like that. NYU has gotten half of it for the life of the media, or the student, or something like that, I guess.
And two questions -
The data is encrypted, obviously. How is this done? Is it Windows-only software that allows the DVD to be viewed? Is it Adobe Acrobat encryption? Is there some sort of Windows XP-like registration process that will disable certain parts at the whim of the publishing company, or are disabling dates built into the DVD?
And, were you working there when the decision was made to go forward with Vital Books? If so, was anyone in the Dental School tech department consulted on the matter?
