POSITION SUMMARY Media Farm seeks a full time developer who is extremely proficient in database design and development for use in multi-tier web applications. The Database Developer will be capable of integrating creative and technical assets to program highly efficient and conceptually sound systems, and will be knowledgeable in principles of user-centered design and software development.
RESPONSIBILITIES · Analyzing and commenting on applications' data structures and data requirements · Using database design tools to develop comprehensive ERDs · Implementing physical and logical designs on a variety of target RDBMS platforms · Developing and implementing backup strategies for a variety of RDBMS platforms · Developing tools to load and extract data from relational databases · Develping and tuning SQL queries · Diagnosing and repairing problems in production and development databases, including performance problems, data integrity problems and hardware/software failures · Making recommendations to clients and Media Farm staff on ideal database and applications server platforms · Some interactive application programming in Perl and other scripting languages
REQUIREMENTS · 2-4 years experience designing databases for interactive or e-commerce applications · Experience with Oracle, MySQL and SQL Server 2000 RDBMS systems · Experience with scripting tools that manipulate and use RDBMS systems, including: o Perl (DBD/DBI) o Shell scripting o PL/SQL o Transact SQL · 1-2 years experience maintaining small- to mid-sized production databases · Experience using ERWin, Visio or other ERD modeling tools · 1-2 years experience working with application developers to tune and write queries
ADDITIONAL SKILLS A PLUS · UNIX systems administration · Experience with large capacity backup and restore operations
