SUBJECT | Subject: [hangout] calling Lamar
|
Hi, I just spoke with Lamar (he picks up that # himself-hint,hint). He assured me Sen. Pat Laehey(sp?)has sworn to not let the bill move one single inch 'this time around' (it can always be reintroduced, or more sneakily, renamed). He was confident that with this being an election year no one will go near this increasingly stinky issue and it will die, this time. Regardless, they (in Washington) are feeling the groundswell of emotion and passion when it comes to this issue and he feels it will be THE issue in the coming year. I called as a consumer, artist (I have independently produced a TV show), and constituent. I expressed that I am not a thief nor do I want/intend to be one and, on the same note, don't feel that an entire industry should change the pace/path of development to protect another's business model. I also expressed how I felt it had allot more to do with distribution control end to end and protecting huge paydays for certain companies/people at the expense of my established rights than computer security or piracy. The business models are changing and the entertainment industry must adapt to it not ____________________________ New Yorker Linux Users Scene Fair Use - because it's either fair use or useless....
