Some people are of a different opinion.

Rather than consider arguments you choose to disable the judgment of those in favor of restoration.
Do you have a substantial answer to any of the following? We should rebuild because:
1. We need the office space.
2. The fundamental problem is political, not one of engineering.
3. If the political problems are not resolved then nothing is safe. It is only a matter of time before ALL the bridges, dams, hospitals, schools, monuments, and other national treasures and resources are attacked.
4. If (when, we have no choice in this) the political problems ARE resolved there is no reason remaining to not build them high and proud.
5. Our response to terrorism should be as "in your face" as possible. - kill the terrorists - destroy the governments that shield them - punish the people that support them - render all their actions without consequence whenever possible (we can't bring the dead to life, but we can certainly restore the buildings)
6. We need something upon which to hang the plaque that honors the dead.
7. I believe in "accepting reality and living in the present." see http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/nm/20011230/ts/attack_saudi_dc_1.html
``Our Arab and Muslim nation was severely damaged because of the reckless acts of murderers who raised the banners of Islam, ... and claimed to fight for the Arab and Muslim nation, which was the first victim of their crimes,'' Prince Abdullah said.
The present reality is that the muslim world will no longer tolerate Bin Laden and his kind. They know what is at stake.
8. Putting the towers back up is the concrete way to say "never again."
9. I don't want the Star Spangled Banner to be sung with "...land that once was free, and home of the afraid" as the last line.
10. In fact, we are free of this terror only when we happily build what we want, where we want. The WTC site is the perfect candidate for something really really big. It is the acid test of our recovery.
