The Program: The NYC Training Grant program provides grants to New York City businesses to train new and current employees. The program will provide businesses with cash subsidies to improve their productivity, and generate job opportunities for New Yorkers.
Funding for the program has been provided by the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA).
How it Works: Qualified New York City businesses will be partially reimbursed for costs associated with training employees.
Businesses will receive the lesser of:
* 50 percent of out-of-pocket customized training expenses or salaries during on-the-job training; or * $3,000 per eligible trained employee
Businesses will identify potential trainees on their own and choose training programs that suit their needs. Both existing employees and new hires can participate in the program.
Businesses seeking grants must file an application prior to enrolling an employee in a training program or incurring training expenses. Once approved, businesses will be reimbursed upon successful completion of the employee?s training and placement of the individual in a full-time job.
Businesses will provide EDC with information on participating employees, details about the selected training program, and documentation of training costs, successful program completion, and job placement.
Who is Eligible: The program is discretionary, and the following criteria will be considered in awarding these grants:
* Businesses must be currently located in New York City. * Training grants will be provided for jobs that pay appropriate wages, based on industry standards. Benefits will only be provided for jobs that pay above a minimum income level. * Businesses seeking to train employees in high-demand occupations are preferred. * Businesses offering trainees wage increases or job promotions upon completion of training are preferred.
If you are interested in applying for this program, please contact EDC at (212) 312-3600. -- __________________________
