Name, address, salutation:
Thank you for your interest in Linux International. LI is an association of vendors and international organizations who encourage and promote the use of the Linux operating system.
In promoting the use of Linux we participate in educational programs, coordinate collaborative marketing, inform people of the uses of Linux and how to use Linux in their day to day tasks. We work with groups such as USENIX, the Free Software Foundation, Linux Professional Institute and other non-profit groups that help to educate and promote the use of freely distributed software.
We have a Board of Directors, which consists of an elected group from among our Corporate Members and Sponsoring Corporate Members.
We also have a Technical Board, responsible for both technical input and for managing the Linux International General Developer's Fund (LIGDF). The LIGDF is used to fund special development projects. The funds for the LIGDF come from contributions collected solely for the use of Linux Developers, not from Linux International membership dues. Technical Board members are nominated and elected to the Technical Board by the Technical Board as necessary to keep it viable. Members of the Technical Board do not pay dues to Linux International, instead donating their time.
Another very active committee within Linux International is the LI Marketing Committee. This group consists of staff at member organizations who donate some or all of their time to LI marketing activities. The purpose of the LI Marketing Committee is to:
¤ Cost effectively grow global Linux marketshare through collaboration. ¤ Promote LI as a credible organization through accountable actions. ¤ Invite and expand participation of technology companies worldwide.
Finally we have a set of Officers, whose duty is to carry out the wishes of the Board of Directors. These Officers also do not pay dues to Linux International, instead donating their time.
We have three basic membership groups:
o Sponsoring Corporate Member - $10,000 per year o Corporate Member - $2,500 per year o Affiliate Group - $1 per year plus a one-time application fee of $50
If your company decides to participate as either a Sponsoring Corporate Member or a Corporate Member, you will be asked to supply an employee to represent your company at member meetings and participate in the member mailing list. Also be aware that from time to time your company will be invited to donate time, materials and personnel to special committees and task forces organized to accomplish specific needs to meet our goals. Most of our interaction is through EMail, although we also try to have meetings at events where we come together such as Comdex, CeBit, or LinuxWorld Expo.
-> The affiliate groups will also be expected to submit paperwork showing -> that they are a registered non-profit corporation, and a copy of their -> organization's charter.
As a member of Linux International, you will be eligible to join with Linux International in trade show pavilions, collaborative advertising programs, and other efforts. We maintain several mailing lists, so that anyone at member organizations can participate in the discussion and planning of our various programs.
To join Linux International please send a check for the amount of the membership desired to Linux International at this address:
Membership Secretary Linux International PMB 446 816 Elm Street Manchester, NH 03101-2101 USA
If you are a foreign applicant, you can send email to membership-at-li.org requesting the information to do an electronic funds transfer, which is probably the easiest way.
With your payment, please indicate one person's name, EMail address, mailing address and Fax number. This person should be your primary liaison to Linux International. I recommend that this person have a business orientation, rather than a technical one, since many of the issues discussed on the members' mailing list tends to be business and marketing oriented. Also, if this person has the authority to delegate organizational resources, they can facilitate projects and tasks which fit with your missions.
After we receive your check, or electronic transfer, we will add you to the members mailing list and website (www.li.org), and you will have joined Linux International!
If you have any questions on submitting your membership application, please feel free to call Thomas Albright, the membership secretary, at +01.603.665.9540
If you have any questions on any other aspect of Linux International, please feel free to call me at +01.603.672.4557, on the east coast of the United States.
I look forward to working with you.
Sincerely,
Jon Hall, Esq. Executive Director
