SUBJECT | Subject: [hangout] Committee or Good Project

Ruben
I have been giving some thought of committees after our conversation this morning. I came up with a couple of ideas that interest me. Though, I'm not sure if they would be committees or maybe just some good projects.
Since my background is in the computer graphics industry I have two thoughts; first, I would love to develop a program or a package to an existing program that would rival QuarkXpress, Photoshop and Illustrator. Basically allow free software for graphic artists that would totaly run on Linux. I know there is the GIMP, but it needs to have that CMYK issue worked out to resemble PS. TeX or LaTex maybe a good place to start with a Quark like package and Killustraor for Illustrator.
Second, how about promoting the use of Linux on hardware other than Intel based machines. I love my MACs and am awaiting the recent release of Yellow Dog Linux. This would be good to show "everyday people" that they don't have to abandon their favorite machine inorder to run Linux.
My problem with my first idea is I know how the graphic programs have to work. I don't know how to write such a program or package to an additional one. If anyone is interested I'd love to discuss the possibilites.
