SUBJECT | Subject: [hangout] Teaching Stipents
|
Secondary to a number of discussions around the educational inititive and the Free Software Institute, a number of times it has come up that we need to look at stipents for the those teaching, and find ways to reward people for teaching, which is VERY labor intessive.
The Perl Class was given at 150 dollars per student over 10 weeks, and we have about 15 students and generated about $3000 in income.
On a more extensive program, we might be able to run 2 classes in parallel and give a stipent to teachers of about $500 dollars. But even this has come under fire as being not enough.
I'm not certain about this. Here is what I was considering. In addition to the deveopment of a low cost ciriculum for folks to learn about Free Software development and administration, I envisioned a corperate training Annex to NYLXS where people can teach and get paid full rate in addition to the onsite classes. We also need to provide corperate services through our affiliation of consultant.
Clearly nobody wants to starve. But clearly we will if we don't provide leadership training and development in an accessable fashion.
