<management and go to dynamic content management. UpdateEngine from Fatwire Software is a 100% java based database driven dynamic content management solution that is completely customizable and based on open standards (JAVA, XML ,XSL). Customers include IBM, SUN, Apple, Swisher, Ogilvy etc...>>
Yeah - I saw this product and it sucked. It's just more closed sourced slave-ware and Big Birds pocket will just be picked again, not to mention Big Birds ability to move off Slave-ware to Free Software, and REAL contnent control.
This is a blatent advertisement on NYLUG.
The entire concept of "Content Management" was cooked up in someones marketing department. It's really a meaningless buzz word. We all want to manage our content and support access to multiple publishers to our web-sites, to keep them updated, and fresh. The biggest internet companies, like about.com, do this all day without any other 'content management software' other than hat they build in C. It's nothing new, just processing web forms, access security, and shifting files around.
Your first instict was the right one. CVS can be very helpful, with native editors.
You can use Mason with that to help template the site, and keep it organziaed. I personally like embperl for this purpose. Free your resources and develope your staff's ability to do this sort of work for you. Don't jump from one kettle of boiling water to the next.
Zope is also good for overall developement, if you what a site that is zopish, with message boards etc.
