SUBJECT | Subject: [hangout] Responding to The Agenda
|
First of all, I would like to thank Ruben for putting the NYLXS starting agenda into words. I am very enthused about his vision for NYLXS.
I do have some feedback which should be useful.
**************************************** On Leadership Development and Training: I, like many people, am self-taught in all things related to Linux (and computers in general). Thus, there are still many things I do not know how to do and would very much like to know how to do. I would be very interested in training and development for myself and depending on the fee, would even pay for it.
I am also hoping to be able to provide my services as a trainer as well in those areas where I am knowledgeable enough to do so.
Probably the most interesting thing I can say about training and education is that I have been working as a consultant to NYUonline and have helped create a training curriculum for a product they developed. I am also providing tech support for their Online Classes. I believe there may be a possibility of working with NYUonline to bring Linux-related courses to the world. I could certainly find out who we would need to talk to with regard to that.
(The unfortunate thing is that they are doing all of their development work on the Windows platform....sure wish someone could show them the light. )
************************************** On Bringing Linux to Schools: I am most interested in this initiative for many reasons and would like to be a part of any/all efforts in this arena. For what it is worth, I know someone who works at the Mayor's office who knows people in the NYC Board of Education.
**************************************** On Lobbying: I understand lobbying and also feel it is important. I feel that educating the public (and government officials) is probably more important and I would hope that through our lobbying we can be educating.
**************************************** On Linux in Business: I started a company a couple of years back called Impact Information Technologies and since that time I have been providing businesses with a wide variety of support, including document preparation, presentation development, spreadsheet development, database work, and Internet development among many other things. I have also trained people in the use of MS Office products. With the knowledge I have gained about the needs of today's business environments, I feel I can help to develop the marketing and support necessary to get the Linux Desktop into the corporate environment.
***************************************** One final note: I have hundreds of books I can contribute to a library.(As long as I have the right to check them out when I need them) :)
